About Saint Columba's PDF Print E-mail
crosslogoSaint Columba's is a rapidly developing parish in the Johns Creek area near Duluth, Georgia. We are the 93rd parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta and have grown to just over 1100 members during our first few years.

We are excited to have completed Phase I of our construction plan. We invite you to visit us Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Saturday evenings to share in the worship and fellowship of Saint Columba's.

Who Are We

St. Columba's is an inclusive, Christ-centered community in the Episcopal Church dedicated to building a stronger community on the love and hope of God. One of the sayings we've adopted is that, "St. Columba's is a church where love is found, all are named, and hearts are freed to change the world." We believe this is what church community is all about. We come from many backgrounds and perspectives but share a common commitment to growing in the faith and love of God. St. Columba's is a place to ask those discerning questions that life presents, and, in Christ, find the answers we're seeking.

How We Came To Be

Construction

On September 7, 2003, over 500 people gathered in the cafeteria of South Forsyth Middle School to celebrate our first Eucharist as the newest mission of the Diocese of Atlanta. Prior to this opening celebration, a steering committee of faithful, dedicated Christians had been meeting for a year to develop, prepare, and plan the new parish community. Today, St. Columba's has grown in membership to more than 1100 communicants and we are rapidly approaching 400 in average Sunday Worship attendance.

Our Next Steps

On the Feast of St. Joseph, March 19, 2005, we broke ground on our Phase I construction plans at 939 James Burgess Road. Utilizing only 4 of our 16 acre campus, this project, completed in August 2006, includes a church which seats 300, a parish hall, and three temporary buildings for our Sunday school classrooms. Our capital campaign, "Let Your Light Shine" is underway and will provide the funds necessary to begin retiring the construction debt and prepare for the beginning of Phase II of our construction plan. In Phase II we plan to build a permanent, two-story education & administration building that replaces the temporary classrooms we are currently using and develop outdoor athletic fields for an expansion of our children and teenage ministries. Phase III of our plan will be the construction of the permanent church, which will seat 800 in the nave, provide ample seating for our growing choir and music ministry, and include a small chapel for smaller weekday liturgies. Once complete, our campus will also include two athletic fields, outdoor altar and gardens, as well as a multipurpose activity building. Throughout all phases of development, we will strive to hold on to the friendly, welcoming mission-centered feeling that has made St. Columba's the thriving parish community it is today.
