Sunday, September 9
As summer begins to wind to a close, preparations for our annual Rally Sunday are underway. This year Bishop Alexander will be with us as we kick-off a new year of Sunday school, give thanks for and commission our Church school teachers, and confirm and receive adults and teenagers into the faith and life of the Episcopal Church. It will be a grand day to be sure.
Rally Sunday is a time to celebrate all the gifts with which we have been blessed as a parish church, and to re-commit to a regular pattern of worship and study. As we resume our regular schedule for the school year, many new classes and programs begin for adults and youth alike (click Here for a full description of adult classes). Rally Sunday is more than a celebration of a new year, it's all about 'new beginnings.' We begin anew in our spritual journey and open ourselves to the power and grace of God to strengthen us and give our lives meaning, purpose, and inspiration as we move ahead in witness and service.
We'll celebrate the ministry of our teachers at the 9:00 Mass as we commission all teachers and highlight the many opportunities for study and growth available on Sunday mornings and during the week. At 10:00 we'll hear from Bishop Alexander as he begins a series entitled, "Blessed To Be An Episcopalian," describing what it means to be a Christian worshiping in the Anglican/Episcopal tradition. At 11:15, we will celebrate the Confirmation Mass where adults and teenagers will renew their baptismal faith and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit to continue their lives in service and witness to Almighty God. The day will conclude with an festive luncheon for the whole parish and everyone will have time to speak with the Bishop as he makes his last visitation to St. Columba's as our diocesan bishop (Bishop Alexander is scheduled to retire in October upon the consecration and enthronement of the 10th Bishop of Atlanta, Father Robert Wright).
Rally Sunday is one of the most exciting days in the life of our parish and it will be a day you'll not want to miss. So plan now to be a part of the day's celebration, prayers of thankgiving, and fellowship!
