The Choirs of St. Columba's

The St. Columba’s Choir (10th grade through adult) sings at the 10:30 Mass each Sunday from the Feast of the Assumption (mid-August) through the Feast of St. Columba (mid-June) and rehearses on Thursdays at 7:00 pm. The Choir also provides music for the All Souls’ Requiem, Advent Lessons and Carols, the Christmas Eve Festival Prelude and Solemn Mass of the Nativity, the Solemn Masses on Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday, the Good Friday Liturgy, the Great Vigil of Easter, and the 9:00 and 11:15 Masses on Easter Day. The Office of Solemn Evensong and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and choral settings of the Mass Ordinary are offered on an occasional basis. The Choir has also sung several Evensongs and Diocesan Confimation Masses at the Cathedral of St. Philip. The Choir’s repertoire ranges from ancient Gregorian chant to recent compositions.

The St. Columba’s Choristers (2nd grade through 9th grade) sing at the 10:30 Mass most weeks from the Sunday after Labor Day through the end of the school year. They also sing for the 8:00 Mass on Christmas Eve and both the 9:00 and 11:15 Masses on Easter Day. The Choristers rehearse on Wednesday afternoons from 5:15 to 6:45, and their rehearsals stress musical and liturgical literacy in addition to preparing music for Mass. The framework for the Chorister Program is the Voice for Life curriculum from the Royal School of Church Music. The Choristers regularly join the St. Columba's Choir for liturgies such as Advent Lessons and Carols, Solemn Evensong and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and Diocesan Confirmation Masses. New singers are warmly welcomed.
