Experiencing Scripture, Worship, and Tradition

Sunday School for Children

(Pre-K through 5th Grades)

We have a vibrant Sunday School program for children from three years of age through high school (nursery care is available for children under three years of age). Our goal is to provide a fun and faithful atmosphere where our children can explore the ways that God is at work in their lives. Our approach is child-focussed and hands-on. In other words, the children in our Sunday school program are not just learning facts; they are experiencing first-hand how scripture, worship, and tradition are relevant to them today. We currently use three curricula on Sunday mornings.

This curriculum is rooted in Holy Scripture, the liturgies of the Church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in a beautifully and carefully designed "atrium" equipped with simple yet beautiful materials which the children use to explore with surprising depth the mysteries at the heart of Christian faith.

Sunday school meets between the two Sunday Masses, from 9:45-10:45 am during the school year. Classes do not meet on the 3rd Sunday of the month, so that all can join in the 3rd Sunday parish breakfast.

The major components of the program include:

  • Prayer & the Holy Bible

  • The Sacraments, especially Baptism and the Holy Eucharist

  • The parables of Jesus, especially Jesus as the Good Shepherd

  • Jesus in historical and geographical context

  • Easter: the Paschal Mystery

  • The celebrations of the Christian year

  • The history of Salvation and the Kingdom of God

“We are pleased to offer the popular and highly successful Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program for all children ages 3 through 5th grades. This incredible program is an experiential, hands on learning environment that gives children the opportunity to learn about God and our sacramental way of living and develop a faith of their own.”
